Welcome to the Senior Equine Skills Application Page.

Objectives:

  • Introduce people to horses: This programme offers a practical and supportive path to horse care and handling. It provides a safe environment, offering everyone the opportunity to develop practical skills and gain recognition through a nationally recognised NZPCA certificates, regardless of their starting point, to learn and grow.

  • Inclusive Participation: Membership is open to Pony Club and Riding Centre members, whether or not they own a horse.

  • Recognising achievements: These certificates acknowledge accomplishments in the equestrian sector, that can be applied confidently with three levels available: Bronze, Silver, and Gold. Each level includes options to suit individual interests and goals, ensuring flexibility for all members.

  • Focus on Age-Based Learning: The Equine Skills program is age-based,making it accessible for everyone. Unlike the certificate syllabus, it acknowledges prior achievements by cross-crediting NZPCA certificate syllabus completed and existing NZQA qualifications. 

  • Equine Skills Cross Credits to NZPCA Certificate Syllabus.

Requirements:

  • Membership: Anyone can purchase the workbooks, but you must be a financial member to receive a certificate.
  • Age: Recommended 13 years and above.
  • No prerequisites: No prior skills are needed to enroll.
  • Programme delivery: Members can select topics from different sections but must meet minimum requirements in each section.
  • Horse Management: This section is compulsory.
  • Aligned with Achievement Badges: Some topics correspond to Achievement Badges, which will be awarded upon completion.
  • Completion Certificate: Members will receive a certificate once all requirements for the level are met. Each level is divided into sections. Members must complete options from all sections, and they can complete the sections in any order.

Record of Training:

  • Record of training is key to tracking progress and documenting achievements:
    • Completed record sheets must be submitted to the Head Coach or coach approved by the Head Coach and District Commissioner, who will confirm requirements are met.

  • Senior Bronze
    • Equivalent Syllabus: D+ Level
    • Achievement Badge Colour: Green
    • Sections: 
      • Horse Management (compulsory)
      • Pony Club Service (compulsory, minimum one option)
      • Creative Work (minimum three options)
      • Practical Skills (minimum four options)
  • Senior Silver
    • Equivalent Syllabus: C Level
    • Achievement Badge Colour: Yellow
    • Sections: 
      • Horse Management (compulsory)
      • Pony Club Service (compulsory, minimum two options)
      • Creative Work (minimum three options)
      • Practical Skills (minimum four options)
  • Senior Gold
    • Equivalent Syllabus: C+ Level and above
    • Sections: 
      • Horse Management (compulsory)
      • Pony Club Service (compulsory, minimum two options)
      • Practical Skills (minimum four options)
      • Creative Work (minimum five options)

Cost: $50.00 including 5.5% Nominate processing fee
