Our annual weekend training camp concentrates on all aspects of having a pony/horse and rider at Pony Club. This includes lessons for Flatwork, Show Jumping, Cross Country, Games and Horse Management.
Beginner riders can ride First Ridden or Lead Rein (1 day only - Saturday) or both days for D level riders and above.

PLEASE ENSURE THE RIDER'S MOUNT IS FIT FOR 2 DAYS OF RIDING AND HAS BEEN IN WORK PRIOR TO CAMP.

This weekend offers a great start to the season for all riders – complete beginners, new combinations, a solid start to the season and lots of fun for all.

Riders under 12yrs and riders on a lead rein must be accompanied by a parent. Riders 12-18yrs must be accompanied by a parent or written guardianship. All riders require a named helper (parent/guardian) for the duration of camp.

PARENT/GUARDIAN HELP

All Adults, Parents, Guardians and riders will be required to help during the camp and with clean up. Camp cannot operate without help from everyone. We are all volunteers. A list of allocated jobs will be emailed out prior to the camp weekend. Camp registration will not be accepted without a nominated helper for each rider to be available over the weekend. We will need helpers for set-up on Friday.

Each riding group needs an adult to accompany them and ensure Records of Training are filled out after each lesson. Please be available to help with rails and equipment while watching lessons.

General INFORMATION about camp

  • Coaching for the 2 day camp will cover Flatwork, Show Jumping, Cross Country, Games and Horse Management.
  • Lessons will be given by NZPCA National Coaches, local experienced PC Coaches and other equine professionals. Camp will count as 2 rallies – 1 rally per day attended.
  • A timetable for the weekend will be sent out prior to the camp.
  • The organisers in conjunction with Branch coaches will do their best to place the riders in the appropriate groups.
  • More than one mount per rider is permitted but you will be asked to please nominate which horse/pony will be doing which lessons and ability – ground & yard fees per mount apply. Choose class 5 for second mount.
  • If group changes need to be made, it will be at the discretion of the Coach and not made until after the first mounted lesson at camp.
  • Yards, paddocks and all common areas must be kept clean at all times; inspections will be carried out during camp.
  • Remember Parent help is required to run this camp: We need help with set up on Friday and pack up – and clean up on Sunday. Clean up is the BIG job and we expect all parents and riders to help with this.

  • PLEASE NOTE: NO SLEEPING PERMITTED INSIDE THE RACECOURSE BUILDING.
Suggested alternative for those without sleeping accommodation in floats etc is in Falcons Nest not far from the Racecourse:
https://www.falconsnest.co.nz/ if you have a group of 20 exclusive hire available.

  • Refunds for cancellation will only be given with a valid Vet cert or Doctor’s Certificate. Notification for cancelling needs to be received prior to the commencement (Friday October 10) of the camp or no refund will be considered. Nominate 5.5% fee non-refundable. Refund requests will be tabled at the next COPC Committee meeting after camp for approval.

The updated NZPCA syllabus is based on Horse Welfare and this will be covered in detail during camp. Please ensure the riders mounts are fit, well shod or trimmed and clipped (if required) prior to camp.
